Denim derriere ad has feminists flying into rage

In a country where foreign brands are entering by the dozen, you can understand the need of a homegrown brand to make themselves more relevant to the youth. That's what seems to be happening in desi denim brand Flying Machine's latest ad campaign. The brand, struggling to keep pace with the Diesels, Calvin Kleins, Armani Exchanges and J Brands of the world fast flying off mall shelves in Indian cities, came up with an ad campaign to reach out to the youth. The print ad, however, has run into controversy for being in bad taste. The ad shows a female model wearing flattering jeans, with the catchline saying, in bold font: " What an Ass!" The ad was probably meant to resonate with the young and happening. It, however, has offended women activists and once again ripped open the debate on creative liberty vs sensationalism. The fact that it doesn't even look like a typical Indian woman's famed behind, is also something catching people's attention. The body type looks particularly foreign with a narrow waist and sculpted ass, with nothing remotely like the desi derriere. The CEO of the youth division of Arvind Mills, the company that produces Flying Machine, has reportedly stood by the ad, saying there's nothing sensational or vulgar about it. He thinks the ad should be treated in good humour. Advertisement is arguably the one medium of creativity that reflects the flavour of the times even more than cinema, music or art. It's about direct interaction with the consumer and is meant to translate almost instantly into tangible returns. No wonder then that ads capture the popular imagination much more than hit movies or songs sometimes. But lately, one has noticed many ads taking the thin line between sensational and stimulating lightly. Recently, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting cracked the whip on some men's deodorant commercials for being overtly sexual and showing women as depraved and wanting. Even underwear commercials of Amul Macho and Lux Cozy came under the censorship's radar for being more raunchy than naughty. Source By: India Today

Apple's Steve Jobs abruptly resigns as CEO
Jobs, the iconic tech visionary who co-founded Apple and recently made it the most valued U.S. corporation, abruptly resigned as chief executive Wednesday night.
Jobs, 56, who has battled pancreatic cancer the past few years and looked noticeably weaker recently, told Apple's board of directors in a brief note that he "could no longer meet my duties and expectations" as CEO.
USA Today

After Arab Revolts, Reigns of Uncertainty
DJERBA, Tunisia — The idealism of the revolts in Egypt and Tunisia, where the power of the street revealed the frailty of authority, revived an Arab world anticipating change. But Libya’s unfinished revolution, as inspiring as it is unsettling, illustrates how perilous that change has become as it unfolds in this phase of the Arab Spring.
Though the rebels’ flag has gone up in Tripoli, their leadership is fractured and opaque; the intentions and influence of Islamists in their ranks are uncertain; Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi remains at large in a flight reminiscent of Saddam Hussein’s; and foreigners have been involved in the fight in the kind of intervention that has long been toxic to the Arab world.
The New York Times

Jobs's Legacy: Changing How We Live
Steve Jobs's resignation as Chief Executive Officer of Apple is the end of an extraordinary era, not just for Apple, but for the global technology industry in general. Mr. Jobs is a historic business figure whose impact was felt far beyond the company's Cupertino, California headquarters, and who was widely emulated at other companies. And now, for the first time since 1997, he won't be CEO.
To be very clear, Mr. Jobs, while seriously ill, is very much alive. People with direct knowledge of the matter say he intends to remain involved in developing major future products and strategy and intends to be an active chairman of the board, even while new CEO Tim Cook runs the company day-to-day. This is not an obituary. But his health is reported to be up and down, and even an active chairman isn't the same as a CEO.

Anna: I will not die till we get Jan Lokpal Bill

He looked weak but there was no flagging of his spirit as he shouted "Vande Mataram" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai".
"I am doing fine and there is nothing to worry about. I have lost 6.5 kg in the last 10 days but there is no difficulty," Hazare told the crowd at the Ramlila Maidan.

Top 5 Scams In India

India is changing now, Indian peoples are more aware now and they know what is the need of future. As we know Anna Hazare is doing agitation for Jan Lokpal Bill but the question is why he is doing that and why India supporting him ? now we tells you the complete story of this support:

This story is begin with some Big Scams in India.

1. 2G Spectrum scam:

Now we talking about the biggest scam in India, this will undoubtedly top the list.2G spectrum licenses were issued to private telecom companies at throwaway prices.Selling licenses on a first come first serve basis, telecom minister Mr. A. Raja is the main accused in the 2G Spectrum Scam. This scam is estimated Rs. 1.76 lakh crores, now A. Raja in Tihar jail.

2. Commonwealth Games Scam:

Commonwealth Games are organized by India and we are proud on it that we successfully organized these games. Now this is the front end of these games but now see what is the back end of this show, there is a big financial blunders behind the Commonwealth Games in India. While the estimated amount washed away is somewhere around 8,000 crore, CBI had to raid Mr. Kalmadi’s premises when it was out that some important documents with details of game deals have gone missing.

3. Adarsh Housing Scam:

In 1999 thousands of army men fought their way through grime and grenades to send the Pakistani encroaches back to their side of the border. And while they won hands down, many of them never got back from the war.The land reserved for war widows and veterans of Kargil war, was taken by politicians, bureaucrats and army personnel. That’s the one line description of a scandal that perfectly portrays greed, insensitivity, schemes and fraud. The scam led to the replacement of Mr. Ashok Chavan by Mr. Prithviraj Chavan as the Maharashtra chief minister, under the shadow of loads of talks and discrepancies.

4. IPL Scam

The IPL scam is estimated at approximately Rs. 1,500 crores and makes it to the list, having given an edgier dimension to the gentleman’s game. Mr. Lalit Modi is the main accused in the 2G Spectrum Scam.

5. Karnataka land scam

Troubles galore. Two words to sum up the BJP rule in Karnataka. The gist simply is this: Yeddyurappa wanted to give away some land to his kith and kin. We didn’t have any problems with that. The only issue was that the land he wanted to give away was the government’s own land. And...Scam! When allegations hit the ruling party and created uproars in the assembly, Yeddyurappa stood up and asked the question so naively, that he left the opposition dumbstruck. “So what?” asked the minister, “It’s not just me; everybody’s doing it. Heck, some of you guys even have done it! I know.” And that folks, is the story of the Karnataka land scam. There is no obvious moral to be learned from this one.

So now you understand why India support to Anna Hazare, because he is the only man who can change this system.

Hazare's Anticorruption Protest

NEW DELHI – Indian social activist Anna Hazare departed New Delhi's Tihar Jail on Friday, leading a massive procession of supporters through the city streets and launching a hunger fast and demonstration to pressure the government to enact strong anti-corruption reforms.

Mr. Hazare waved to his supporters from atop a raised platform on a truck moving slowly along with the crowd. Several thousand supporters waved national flags, sang and danced during the procession; others threw flower petals on Mr. Hazare.

"A second freedom struggle has begun!" Mr. Hazare said after arriving at the protest site in central New Delhi. He said he had already been fasting for a few days and had lost three kilograms of weight. "We have to launch a new revolution in our country."

Unlikely Echo of Gandhi Inspires Indians to Act
NEW DELHI — In a “new” India often obsessed with wealth and status, where cricket batsmen and Bollywood movie stars are wildly idolized, Anna Hazare is a figure from an earlier, seemingly discarded era. His pointed white cap and simple white cotton clothes evoke a Gandhian simplicity. His rural, homespun demeanor ordinarily might elicit snickers from India’s urban elite.

Yet Mr. Hazare, 74, has emerged as the unlikely face of an impassioned people’s movement in India, a public outpouring that has coalesced around fighting corruption but has also tapped into deeper anxieties in a society buffeted by change.

His arrest on Tuesday, made while he was en route to a park in New Delhi where he intended to commence a hunger strike as part of his anticorruption campaign, drove thousands of people onto city streets across India. Under public pressure, government officials tried to release him within hours, but Mr. Hazare refused to leave jail unless the government released him unconditionally. On Thursday, the two sides reached a compromise, and Mr. Hazare is expected to leave jail on Friday to lead a hunger strike and mass protest in central New Delhi to push his demand that the government create a powerful, independent anticorruption agency.
